Speaker: Darren Galpin
Presentation Title: Challenges of Developing Silicon for Automotive
Abstract:

If you are starting an automotive development from scratch, what are the challenges of doing so – are they where you expect? This presentation discusses the challenges of trying to be standards compliant, and the issues in achieving it.

Speaker Bio:

Darren is currently between roles, having most recently been a Director of Functional Safety and Verification, working for the UK arm of UniSemi Power. He has previously worked at SiFive, Renesas, Infineon and STMicroelectronics across Functional Safety, Verification, Concept Engineering and Product Engineering in a career spanning over 25 years. He is the current IEEE Computer Society Treasurer, secretary of the IEEE Functional Safety Standards Committee, secretary of the IEEE P3332 (Control-Oriented System Safety Analysis), chair of the IEEE 1647, and a member of the IEEE-SA New Standards Committee.

Key Points:
  • Standards are open to interpretation, so don’t believe everything you are told.
  • There is a skills shortage in FuSa
  • RTL design is the easy bit, and you could meet ISO26262 verification targets and still not verify your design
