STPI in association with Government of Karnataka has setup Semiconductor Characterization lab in Bengaluru, branded as SMART (Semiconductor Measurement Analysis & Reliability Test) lab, Inaugurated by Sri. Ravi Shankar Prasad (Minister of Communication & IT) on 02.04.15, to be operated at Tessolve Facility.
Located in Electronics City Phase-II, Bangalore -the Silicon Valley of India, Tessolve Semiconductor Pvt. Ltd., is chosen to be the partner by STPI in housing and managing the SMART Lab as part of providing eco system that helps in Semiconductor, product and system design companies. Tessolve with proven Test Engineering Expertise with highly skilled, efficient and proven Test Engineers in-house combined with state of the art equipment and infrastructure will be perceived as an incomparable facility and be a one stop solution for semiconductor characterization and end to end test solution.
The STPI SMART Lab will house following latest high-end Semiconductor Test & Measurement and Reliability equipment.
Characterization of newly designed Chip at Bench level is one of the most important post Silicon Validation activities. It is an essential part of the Test Engineering domain in the semiconductor industry. Because, the designers should make sure that the device meets all Electrical and timing Specifications are met by the device which is the most important key for the success of the solution offered. Post release of the solution, one need to monitor the performance continuously. Failure Analysis is the key factor in analyzing abnormal behavior or unexpected failure of the solution offered. The FA Test facility is highly expensive and it calls for huge investment if one wants to setup on their own.
Based on the complexity of the device, Characterization requires expensive HW and SW tools. Not only the tools suffice but also right expertise in understanding the Test Cases and preparing the Test Setup is a must to accomplish the task. Also, setting up multiple measurement equipments is a trivial task as their cost is considerably very high. Further, device performance consistency across temperature, voltage and process deviation during device manufacturing is a highly desired factor for the success.
The SMART Lab is one of the most important initiatives by Government of India to bring in an Eco System that can be used by multiple Silicon vendors to make sure their products are tested in time and with less effort & money. The SMART Lab brings in together the highly expensive measurement equipments combined with proven Test Engineers in-house. Highly skilled Engineers in performing the FA are a major plus when it comes to SMART Lab. Performing Failure Analysis as per customer need is a highly trivial task and requires highly sensitive operations to be performed with in the Silicon. It is also time consuming as some of the process requires accuracy and too expensive equipment to be handled very carefully.
